Hacker (Hacked)
Brad Barkett's Security Blog
Name:hackerhacked
LJ Talk:
Bio:My name is Brad Barkett. I live in Laurel, MD. I am a Sr. Security Analyst working for Sprint, onsite for a federal customer. This is a computer security blog. I have been working in computer security since about 1999, and in I.T. and networking in general since 1994. In no way do I profess to be a security expert. If you want to talk to an industry leading security expert, contact my brother, Mike Barkett, he works for Checkpoint, as the lead integrator and Systems Engineer for their new IPS-1 Intrusion Prevention product. I am much more into web and application security issues, because I see these as the true scourge of security. A lot of this will be linkage to other stuff I find to be good reading, or summaries of my views on such. I will not be talking about my job. Anyone who's been around more than a day knows that's bad form.

The aim of this blog is firstly to help me track my own security research, but then also peripherally, to help edutain people I know on livejournal. Owning a computer without understanding basic security practice is like driving a car without takin drivers ed. It can get you wrecked, and it can wreck innocent others in the process. And yet this is exactly what the vast majority of people do, and there is no culpability for these actions. Don't be one of those people, read a few security blogs, read a URL or two a day. Watch one less youtube video.

As the web gets more and more feature-driven, people become more and more distracted from secure programming and secure user practices. What's more, the consequences of this neglect get worse all the time. If you read this blog, you are going to understand that, because I'm a social psychology oriented person, and the steady decline of security and rapidly increasing risk of networked computer use is a major focus of mine. There are enough people out there taking apart trojans and posting hex edits.

If by some bizarre fluke you've come to this blog via security interests and not by knowing me personally or through my music, my main "hobby" (I hate the word "hobby" because it understates passions which are not chosen as careers) is electronic dance music composition, something I have been doing essentially in some form or another since 1986. Go here if interested.
